FAQ

Q1. How do I load my tour onto my GPS unit?

A1. This depends on which GPS unit you are using.  Newer Garmin GPS models will enable you to download the location, story (audio & text), and photos all at once in the TourGuide® format.  If you are using other GPS devices, you will be able to download each piece of information separately—co-ordinates, text files, MP3 files.

If you want to download a Suggested Tour, without any custom additions, you can do so from the ‘Download this tour…’ link at the bottom of the ‘Suggested Tours’ tab.  If you have selected your own sites, click on ‘My Custom Tour’ and use the ‘Download this tour…’ option from this tab.

If you are using a Garmin device, you can download information to your unit directly with Garmin Communicator®.  For more information about this connection, visit the Garmin’s Communicator Plugin page for installation and operational questions.  Once your Garmin device is connected and the Communicator is install, select the ‘Sync to a Garmin GPS unit’ option.

If you are using other recreational GPS units (e.g., Magellan, TomTom), you will be able to download the co-ordinates as a GPX file.  Third-party software**, such as EasyGPS, GPSBabel, or GSAK among others, will assist you in converting the generic GPX file to suit your particular GPS device.
